hi jakeworrell, I tried that but it doesn't work.
i tried to download the rose_128_128_na_evo client. I let you guys know if it works but for now i hope it works :D.

and also, I installed vmware and install winxp on top of that but it didn't work (to be expected) coz of the graphics card requirements.

Rose does work under vista, but in some cases you have to compromise to get it to run correctly. The closing after char select problem seems to be a graphics driver issue, and can be solved by running rose in windowed mode rather than full screen. Also there are several options within the compatability tab on the properties sheet, that are worth trying one by one in combination with each other - ive had different results on different systems with using these options so experiment, its not gonna cause any problems to do so. (I have provided a picture of these below, however your properties sheet may not look exactly the same so play with what you have) Finally make sure you have DX9 installed and that your video drivers are up to date, vista can do odd things sometimes when it comes to graphics.

Vista is nothing but one problem after another. Other then it's ooh awww effects, it's nothing more then a pain in the ass. Vista has to be the worst OS release since ME.

I would dispute that, vista started off very badly, and still is plagued with driver problems, hardware and software compatability issues and bad cpu and memory overheads, however the 64 bit version of vista can work fantastically and unlocks the ability to cope with larger amounts of memory, and of course running native 64 bit applications. It has a lot of potential, and will be a good operating system once all the issues have been ironed out, how long that will take though i wouldnt like to comment on. Windows ME on the other hand was a total dog, had little potential for anything, and was often coined 'Mistake Edition' - it was in fact a just a rehash of windows 9x with a windows 2000 'skin' applied to it - so really it was never actually going anywhere forward, right from its conception.

When I do that I can start Rose but I lose my npc text.

Rose is working fine with me now.
All I did was:
1. complete restore my PC from Back-up (which I made long time ago after clean install), so in short you could say that I just re-install Windows Vista Ultimate SP2
2. Install the ROSE_Online_216_Setup client
3. Patch
4. Compatibility and Disable Visual Themes
5. Add exception to the Windows Firewall
6. Disable Anti-virus firewall before log-in then enable once I'm inside
And that's it! it works fine unless I hit <Enter> key after typing password

Lol.. this game is more trouble than it's worth...

I've re-installed the game because it won't start patch.
I had a major lag, and checked sp2 which seemed to have done the trick.
But then I lost npc text, so I thought relogging would help...
... but it now shuts me out during log in.
I've tried using admin and without it, tried different combinations of the compatability options all without luck.
Now I've used Ulises suggestion and it got me as far as the channel screen before booting me again.
I tried putting back sp2 and it still takes me as far as channel screen.
Firewalls have been disabled or made Rose and exception.
Any other suggestions?

How to get a successful login:

1) Enter your username and password.
2) Click and hold the check button for 5 seconds, then let go, but DO NOT MOVE THE CURSOR UNTIL YOU SEE THE CHANNEL SELECTION.
3) Click and hold the desired channel for 5 seconds, then let go, but DO NOT MOVE THE CURSOR UNTIL YOU SEE THE CAMERA ZOOMING INTO THE TREE HOUSE.

*Note: Make sure you do not move your mouse while holding and while letting go of the button.

I can log in now, after using this. But I'm still missing my NPC text and when I talk to one of the NPC, I'll get stuck there.

I can usually manage to get in after playing with the compatability options, but this time I've pretty much tried every combination but no luck. I tried this and it worked, thanks alot!

All you have to do is HOLD the check mark down for 5-10 seconds... It will always work that way!
